Dr. Idit Tamir – Senior Physician and Director of the Functional Neurosurgery Service in the Department of Neurosurgery at Beilinson Hospital, Rabin Medical Center. Dr. Tamir graduated the MD/PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Her PhD thesis was about electrophysiological mechanisms of intractable epilepsy in a rodent model, on in-vitro slices.
She had trained in neurosurgery at Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem. Dr. Tamir completed clinical and research fellowship in functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery and Basal Ganglia Neurophysiology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). She holds an academic degree of lecturer at Tel Aviv University and performs translational research projects, in collaboration with researchers from Weizman institute and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Currently, she established the multidisciplinary functional neurosurgery service at Rabin Medical Center, which recently was announced to be a nation excellence center of “Clalit”, the main country’s health insurer, treating hundreds of patients. She performs epilepsy surgeries, ablations, invasive monitoring and staged epilepsy surgeries, and implantation of Deep Brain Stimulation to treat movement disorders and epilepsy.
